The Telem Mechina, founded by the Reform movement, is an activist liberal program operating in the heart of Israel, in a vibrant and challenging urban environment. Through exposure to the diversity and gaps in Israeli society, learning, and delving into daily issues, our Mechina is committed to repairing the world (Tikun Olam) and addressing the issues within Israeli society.
Here, half of the week, we volunteer in the neighborhood where we live, in Jaffa and Holon
Between the sea and the coffee shops, living 24/7 with people who are the most different from us, as only possible in the city.
Seizing every opportunity to take to the streets with a flag and megaphone and fight for what matters.
Together, we question who we are and explore deeply all the ways to be Jewish.
The Mechina in Jaffa is situated at the heart of the action – between the docks, the police station of Tel Aviv-Jaffa, the hipsters of Florentin, and the Mediterranean Sea. About 50 students, both male and female, live in the Mechina, volunteering with refugee children, migrant workers, and other vulnerable populations in the southern part of the city.
Living in a close-knit and intimate group of about 25 students, at the heart of the Reform community in Holon, which feels like a family. Volunteering with the children and youth of the “Jessie Cohen” neighborhood in community centers, schools, and wherever they need us.
Both branches are in close connection, fostering shared learning, volunteering, and activism throughout the year.
It is important for us to enable every student who is suitable to be part of the empowering experience, regardless of their family’s financial situation. Many candidates cannot afford the annual cost, that is unfortunately only partially subsidized by the state. As part of our efforts, we are currently launching the Scholarship Fund, intended for students from less privileged families.
